Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and

Grain Millers International Union ~ Local 406

The BCTGM Union has been representing the workers of various employers in the Greater Moncton area, and recently New Brunswick, since our first Charter with the B&C Union in 1959 with Lane’s Bakery (later Ben’s Bakery) on Lutz Street in Moncton.

During the 1960’s our Union began representation of Eastern Bakeries (now Canada Bread Atlantic Ltd.) and Mother’s Own Bakery (Fox Creek) which subsequently was purchased by the former Ben’s Bakery.

Later in this decade we represented the employees of Cara Foods Ltd.

Since the early 1990’s and on, we have been representing employees at Moncton Community Residences Inc., Atlantic Wholesalers Ltd., Bonté Foods Ltd. and Canada Bread Atlantic Ltd. Sales Groups in Sussex, Saint John, Fredericton and Miramichi, as well as production facilities in Moncton, Woodstock and Grand Falls and Distribution in Moncton.

In 1969 the Tobacco Workers merged with the Bakery and Confectionery International Union to become the Bakery, Confectionery and Tobacco Workers International Union.

Subsequently, in 1999 the Grain Millers Union merged with the BCT to become the BCTGM.

In recent years we represented Atlantic Waffles Ltd. until their closure in 2006.

It has been our great pleasure to service these Bargaining Units over the years and we are looking forward to the future of this Local Union representing workers in our Communities.

In Solidarity;

From the Members and Executive of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union, Local 406.
